Hi Dave, how do you tune an 8" tom?
Answer: Go to the supermarket and buy some fire starters, build a nice blaze and throw the drum on it, listen and hear it crackle into pitch... ie: it's impossible.
Greetings Dave, hey what sort of kit should I buy? Thanks.
Answer: One that folds up in one trip , so you can be in the Tarago before the singer - window seat is all important.
I have no idea how to tune my snare drum? Thanks.
Answer: Do what I do, buy the Eric Clapton “In Hyde Park" DVD, turn the sound up to 11 and choose any track. Put drum in front of you and strike it. Lossen or tension till you strike gold.
Hi Dave, is Buddy Rich the greatest drummer of all time?
Just checked with Stephen Hawking : answer is yes.
Hi Dave , quick question , our bass player is constantly speeding up the time - what do I do?
Answer: What usually works for me is getting him to set up across the road from the gig. Sound is very slow to move (like your bassplayer) - by the time it hits you it will be perfectly in sync. Hope that helps. Plan B : form a duo with the guitarist.
Dear Dave, what is the best approach when cornered by a particularly boring/soul destroying AV/sound guy type (no need to mention names) who is berating you with inane details of his latest 'BIG GIG" ie: "Had to use 400 sm57's just to mic the drummer, nightmare!! I mean feedback, crikey I didn't know if I was comin or goin..." etc... meanwhile you are rapidly starting to lose the will to live.. Hope you can help, Avid Reader
Answer: Dear Avid Reader, I think its time you smarten up your act - pay a little respect to the people who are the life blood of this great industry!! Go to the back of the Tarago now! - and just be thankful your not still in that silly uniform with the hat that doesn't fit, saying "would you like to up size that madam?"
